Top Mounted or Chamber Mounted Level Transmitter?

Any level transmitter such as guided wave radar, displacer, magnetostrictive level transmitter, etc can be mounted in the top of the vessel or mounted in the dedicated chamber. Each of the installation option have its own advantage and disadvantage, below is the advantage and the disadvantage of the top mounted and chamber mounted level transmitter.  Even though it is the authority of the process engineer to decide in the P&ID the mounting option of the level transmitter, but we can give them the following input for their consideration.

Top mounted

Limited for atmospheric pressure only

 It is not allowed to have hot-works maintenance (no isolation valve from the tank/vessel)

Chamber mounted

Applicable for any tank/vessel with any pressure rating

 It is allowed to have hot-works maintenance (there is an isolation valve from the tank/vessel)
